Brooklyn FAM ā24
Brooklyn FAM: Festival of Arts and Music is a community-empowering, community-building arts 501(c)3 nonprofit. Iāve been working and volunteering with them since 2021.
This yearās programming focused on Latinx and Afro-Latinx voices, so our festival designs reflects some colors and motifs from those cultures. I worked with our youth fellow, Laila Guzman Griffin, who could speak to the Latinx experience.
We devised the typography and color scheme from vintage 1950ās Cuban food packaging. A big part of the WABAFU Garifuna Dance Theater, who inspired the main dancing figure and traditional dress. We then added Mexican and African patterns, and illustrations of some of the aspects found in the festival. And of course a nod to Matisseās dancers, to represent visual arts, crafting, and community.
